Walton Beavers Exciting Term!

Date: 10th Jan 2018 Author: Scout Websites

Early on in the term, we had a great session at Breech Lane Playing field learning how to put tents up and decorating our harvest boxes in readiness for the Harvest Festival the following weekend. Boxes were filled with tins and dried food for our local homeless charity and brought along to church.

We visited Nower Wood Educational Field Centre in October and had a minibeast adventure.  We found lots of minibeasts under logs and bark and looked at them through magnifying glasses. We divided them into categories: no legs, 6 legs, 8 legs, lots of legs to try to decipher what creatures they were.

We had a session on Diwali and welcomed a local lady who explained all about this festival. We made floating diyas and tasted sweet treats.

Another special evening was our disability awareness session where we invited a lady from hearing dogs for the deaf to attend with her hearing dog and give a presentation. We were all very taken with Ellis the hearing dog and all the wonderful skills he has acquired to help his owner go about her daily life and keep her safe.

On 6th Dec we undertook a night hike around our village thinking about how different everything looks at night and the different sounds we can hear.

Just before Christmas we had a ceramics painting session where Beavers painted a ceramic Christmas decoration with special metallic paints to hang on their Christmas tree. This was a lovely activity to round off the year.
