On a warm summer evening, Banstead Scouts and invited guests enjoyed a splendid BBQ by master chefs Mark Wingett, Frank Jones, David Wingett and James Brewerton at our super Park Farm Campsite. It was a celebration of the on-going growth of Scouting in the Banstead area with the numbers of youth and adult members rising again!
Our guests included Deputy Mayor of Reigate &Banstead Borough Council, Julian Ellacott, Cllr Eddie Humphreys and his wife and Phil Currie, Deputy County Commissioner of Surrey Scouts.
A short formal meeting followed in the Long Barn with the re-election and nomination of officials for the coming year and approval of the accounts etc.
There were speeches by the Mayor, our President Diana Bowes, District Commissioner Jan Jobson and Phil Curie. Thanks were given for all the hard work our volunteer leaders and executive members had put in during the past year for the benefit of the young members.
This was Jan’s last AGM as Kelvin Freeman is becoming District Commissioner in July. She was presented with a wooden plaque in appreciation of her service of 4 years as our District Commissioner
The message for the coming years is ‘Skills for life’ with emphasis on – People, Places, Programmes and Perception.
Scouting is one of the few organisations which provide ‘Progressive Training’ from the age of 6 to 25. The sixer and patrol systems teach, leadership, communication and teamwork all highly valued in all walks of life and especially by employers.
