7th Banstead Beavers Explore the Stars!

My Very Elderly Mum Just Sat on Uncle Nick!

7th Banstead Beavers can reassure you there’s no need to feel sorry for Uncle Nick.  Instead, they now know how to use that mnemonic to tell you the order of the planets in the solar system.

At our sleepover, they also learned about space missions to mars and to the moon, as well as the name of the first dog to orbit the earth (Laika, in case you’re interested.  The name translates to “Barker” in English, which greatly amused the Beavers).

As well as learning lots of other interesting space facts, the Beavers made planet-pizzas for their tea; which were followed by alien snake-filled jelly and ice cream.

To ensure they had lots of sugary rocket-fuelled energy, we made and ate fairy cakes, decorated with night sky coloured icing; on which the Beavers carefully placed various constellations.  We also made space ship fairy cakes, decorated with upside down shot glasses and Smarties.  The leaders considered other uses for the shot glasses, but managed to restrain themselves!

We ventured outside to do some star-gazing, but it was too cloudy to see anything much.  Instead, we made patterns in the air with our glow-sticks and then ran off a bit of energy.

Before bedtime, we held our traditional “who has the best slippers?” competition (the cheeseburgers just edged it) and then attended church parade in the morning.  The Beavers were impeccably behaved in church and enthusiastically distributed palm crosses to the congregation.

Everyone went home tired but happy on Sunday and mostly, the alien-blue tongues and teeth were back to normal colour by then!
