3rd Banstead Cub Camp 2019

Date: 5th Aug 2019 Author: Alistair Tickett

This year, cubs from 3rd Banstead Oak and Elm packs were joined by cubs from 1st Effingham for a joint Pirate Camp at their usual campsite in East Grinstead.  The cubs produced their own pirate costumes as well as having a full programme of activities.  On a daily basis, the cubs went swimming, helped prepare food, collected wood for cooking with and did their washing up.

The cubs also took part in trek cart racing, cooking their own pizzas on  small fires, played mind games, followed a string trail, had campfires, did some shooting, played wide games and crazy sports as well as munching through plenty of tuck and listening to Terry Deary’s pirate adventure stories.

The weather threw everything at the camp: the hottest day on record caused the cubs to swelter.  The heaviest rainfall for hour after hour followed causing a relocation to the sports hall for some pioneering and chariot racing and then a small tornado popped through a section of the campsite leaving everyone grabbing tents legs!  What an adventure!
