Banternet at Scoutabout

Every three years Surrey hold an event called Scoutabout at county level; it is an opportunity for Scouts in all Surrey districts to come together. The event that is held Friday through to Sunday and is a weekend filled with scouting activities for over 4000 scouts and guides.

This year, Banternet attended with 5 of our members helping on site while Mark Wingett our Network leader helped organise the event.

For the majority of the weekend we were in charge of running the dunk tank with Loki network and yes this is exactly what it sounds like. The aim of the game was dunk or be dunked, there were to long queues that were kept in check with super soakers. The first and surprising long queue was for the victims; self volunteered scouts who wanted to sit on a chair and go for a swim. The second large queue was made up of far more sensible kids that were throwing the balls at the dunking target. This was a great success with us being the second most popular event if not the most popular, especially on the Sunday when the weather was brilliant. I think it is fair to say that us network enjoyed it as much as the Scouts with lots of Super soaker banter being given and taken.

During the rest of the time at the event, which was slim considering we ran the tank for most of the time, we helped out stewarding around the site.
