Central District Explorers Hit the Heights

For Summer Camp this year, Central District Explorers travelled to Fort William in Scotland. Their journey in the minibus took 14 hours to get to the camp site with some stop offs and driver swaps. They set their tents up beside a lovely river which was running through it.

One of the first activities was to climb the north face of Ben Nevis and reach the CIC hut.  This was a warm up for our much bigger challenge in two days time – the sponsored climb to the Ben Nevis summit to raise funds for Explorer Scout Amy’s journey to the World Scout Jamboree in America 2019!

The next day the Explorers went on boat trip through Lock Ness which everyone enjoyed and they learnt lots of interesting facts about the area.

The next day they made it to the top of Ben Nevis: it took around 3 hours.  It was very cold and cloudy at the top but the leaders managed to invest two new Explorers into the group which was really special and memorable. It was great getting to the top and took about 2 hours to get back down and it was a relief to take the boots off!
The next day, the Explorers went on a challenging bicycle ride from Fort William to the Nevis mountain range, stopped off for lunch and to admire the view, then cycled back to the camp site.

On the journey to the Isle of Skye the next day, the Explorers stopped off at Fairy Glen and explored the natural fairy pools and waterfalls for some wild swimming which was really fun but cold!
